It's that time of year again... Yep, we're talking homestead exemptions. Here's what you need to know:

  • You file your homestead exemption in order to save money on your property taxes in Texas.
  • In order to qualify for a homestead exemption, you must have occupied the home by January 1st of that year.
  • If your house is your primary residence, then you may qualify to save some money on those property taxes.
  • You can file your homestead exemption through your county's Central Appraisal District (CAD).
  • Your homestead exemption needs to be filed between January 1st and April 1st.
