Filing Your Homestead Exemption - Texas Property Taxes Explained
It's that time of year again... Yep, we're talking homestead exemptions. Here's what you need to know:
- You file your homestead exemption in order to save money on your property taxes in Texas.
- In order to qualify for a homestead exemption, you must have occupied the home by January 1st of that year.
- If your house is your primary residence, then you may qualify to save some money on those property taxes.
- You can file your homestead exemption through your county's Central Appraisal District (CAD).
- Your homestead exemption needs to be filed between January 1st and April 1st.
